Ginny Weasley (Harry Potter)
Ginny is one of those characters who I think has a lot of potential but really could have done with some more fleshing out. I like what we do see of her; I just think that we could have done with being shown more of Ginny’s character growth rather than being told about it second hand. She goes from being a shy, insecure shrinking violet to a bold, confident, spirited and compassionate young woman, which is great, but because we only get to see fragments of her character arc I can see why some readers find it a bit hard to swallow.
That’s not to say that I think the Ginny hate is justified, mind you. The amount of bashing she gets is honestly ridiculous. If you dislike her because you think she’s poorly written or her personality gets on your nerves then fair enough. However, no amount of tl;dr fan essays are going to convince me that it’s magically not sexist to use gendered slurs and slut-shaming against a female character you dislike because she’s JUST. THAT. TERRIBLE. So she clearly deserves it. :p There are plenty of pretty, popular girls who are also nice people. Life is not a Taylor Swift song.
