Day Four: A female character you relate to

Nico Robin (One Piece)

I know her appearance has changed post-timeskip but I couldn’t really find any good manga images for her from the current story arc. Besides, I prefer her pre-timeskip hair. :p

This was a tricky one because a lot of the characters who came to mind at first are more like my younger self than my current self (e.g. Hermione Granger – I had so many “OMG, this is me!” moments when I first read Harry Potter XD ). Robin and I aren’t completely alike but we do have quite a few things in common. We’re both quiet and reserved, we both don’t give up easily, we both love books and history, we’re both quite self conscious… and we both share a strange fondness for morbid things. ^^;

I won’t go into this in detail because it’d involve sharing more information about myself than I feel comfortable with on a public post, but I can definitely relate to Robin’s trust issues. Between the ages of 14 and 18 I barely spoke to anyone at school after one rather unpleasant incident with some bullies. The short story is, I got better, eventually, but it made me really wary of most other people for a long time afterwards. I still tend not to trust other people until I feel comfortable with them; I’m afraid it’s quite difficult for me to just assume that other people are nice or at least reasonably okay by default. Like Robin, though, I find it a lot easier to open up to other people now than I used to.

On a more cheerful note, how can you not like someone whose first response to seeing Cerberus is to comment on how cute it is? XD
